The Office of Indigenous Initiatives, Agnes, and Union Gallery are thrilled to announce a partnership for the 3rd annual Indigenous Art Exhibition at Queen’s University. Programmed in conjunction with the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the exhibition will be a celebration of Indigenous artists in our community including any and all art forms and members of the Queen’s and wider communities alike.

In addition to our regular hours, Union Gallery will be open on Monday, Sept 23 and Monday, Sept 30 from 11am-4:30pm thanks to staffing from the Agnes Etherington Art Centre.

CURATORIAL STATEMENT

The Indigenous art exhibition provides an opportunity to promote works from local Indigenous artists from Katarokwi, Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, and more from across Turtle Island. This exhibit allows space for Indigenous artists to showcase a mix of both contemporary and historical approaches to art. Revitalization of traditional methods, such as beadwork, continues in spite of colonial efforts to erase these aspects of Indigenous culture and life.

THANKS AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

With thanks to Agnes Etherington Art Centre, Union Gallery, Office of Indigenous Initiatives, Four Directions Indigenous Student Centre, NDTR Steering Committee, Office of the Vice Principal - Culture, Equity, and Inclusion, and all the artists
