The Making Sense of Decolonization workshop is part of Carleigh Milburn's Ph.D. project. Participants will create art using provided beads, iPads, Apple Pencils, Procreate and Artificial Intelligence. The artwork produced during the workshop will be showcased in the exhibition through a virtual gallery.

This study aims to deepen our understanding of how art can facilitate discussions, pose questions, and establish connections between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. We will explore the question: What does decolonization look like?

Please note as part of the research project, participants must sign consent forms, which will be provided at the beginning of the workshop. Participants are encouraged to include this exhibition on their CV or portfolio as active involvement in the project.

Due to the nature of the project, participants will not be able to retract their submitted art. By agreeing to participate, you grant Carleigh Milburn the rights to exhibit your work, along with the provided name, for all project-related purposes and potential future use, including publication.

All materials and enrollment for this class are free of charge, though participants are welcome to bring additional supplies if they wish.

This workshop is programmed in conjunction with Making Sense of Decolonization, an exhibition by Carleigh Candice Mignonne Milburn in Union Gallery’s Project Room + Feature Wall. Visit the exhibition during gallery hours from October 29 to December 7, 2024.
