Looking for a creative outlet through the dreary days of December? Look no further than the #UGArtChallenge!
Each day in December, Union Gallery will post an art prompt on Instagram. (These prompts will often be silly, and they’ll always include the letters “UG”.) You’re invited to draw, paint, collage, write, sculpt, sing, dance, bake, photograph, or otherwise create artwork based on the prompt!
If you feel inspired, take a photo or video of your creations and tag us @union_gallery. Each post counts as one entry in a raffle to win a free ticket to side by side in February 2025!
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
Create something! We’ll post an art prompt on Instagram every day from December 1 to 31, and you’re invited to respond through any creative means you’d like.

On January 7, we’ll draw names for two prize winners!
First prize: a free ticket to side by side ($100 artwork value)!
Second prize: UG tote bag + postcards + lapel pin swag bundle!

Why are you doing this?
We think it’s a cute and fun idea! Winter can be a long, sad season, and we want to connect with our artist friends near and far through something low-stakes and lighthearted.
What kind of artwork counts?
Drawing, painting, collage, writing, sculpture, music, dance, baking, photography—if you can create it and document it, it counts! We’re not judging the quality of the work, we’re just inviting you to pause and make something. (Original creations only, not AI-generated, please.)
What if I miss a day?
No problem! We’ll count the creations you post and forget the ones you don’t. It’s holiday fun—it’s not homework!
What if I post my art late?
No worries! We’ll count all posts made before 11:59pm on January 6, 2024.
How will I know if I’ve won the raffle?
Raffle winners will be contacted via Instagram DM by @union_gallery on January 7, 2024.
How do I collect my prize?
The 1st prize winner may choose between an in-person or a proxy ticket to side by side ($100 artwork value) and will be asked to provide their name and an email address. The 2nd prize winner may pick up their tote bag, postcards, and lapel pin at Union Gallery during our open hours or can request that the prize be shipped to them (within Canada).
What if I have an existing relationship with Union Gallery?
UG volunteers, members, artists, and former staff are welcome to participate and are eligible for the raffle! While current staff and board members are welcome to share their creations, they will not be entered in the raffle.
